"Since that agreement with Hoeffel, Matthews has come under fire from Castor, who is the odd man out in the new administration as a result of the Matthews-Hoeffel pact, and other fellow Republicans for allegedly giving away what Democrats could not win in the election.
One committeeman, who received the Matthews letter and asked not to be identified, commented, “This is the most bizarre explanation yet. It is just nonsense.”
